question about backups

Just a note.  I recently had a disk crash and lost my data.  I had a 
week old backup of my personal data (it should have been more current), 
but just getting the system back to where it was usable for what I 
needed it for took a long time.  Most people install many packages that 
are not in the default system install.  

It is worth having a full backup around to avoid having to get 
everything up and working again.
