pppoe at boot?

Many thanks for this - I saw that article too, and added the line pre-up
/sbin/ifconfig eth0 up as suggested (although I did not see the section for
dsl provider .... hmmmm) this did in fact connect me, but the configuration
as described by netstat -rn (first post) did not permit connection.
