proxy - speed up?

I used tor and privoxy also, but found the speeds were unbearably slow
for daily use.  I use the switchproxy extension for firefox now to just
switch on tor when I want so that my daily work and surfing is not so
slow.  I Think that that is the price you pay for anonymity...
