I would recommend trying to upgrade first. Yes you can do this very
easily with apt-get by editing your /etc/apt/sources.list file in your
favorite editor. In your sources.list you just need to change all
occurances of "hoary" to "breezy". In vi this is easily do with:
sudo vi /etc/apt/sources.list
<ESC>:%s/hoary/breezy/g
<ESC>:wq
then just upgrade via apt-get with
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
(you can also do this via a GUI with Synaptic)
and reboot when that is done. Lets us know if that fixes the sound
issues for you.
