having sound in java?

When your other applications are using the sound card, they use ESD to 
stream the sound. Both Java and Flash player want direct access to the 
sound hardware. That's the problem. For more info:

So a workaround will be to make sure that you are not playing sound from 
any other apps like XMMS, Xine, Mplayer ...
