LT Modems

For those who are curious, I recently downloaded the ltmodem-8.31b1.tar.gz
from this site (I did not find a breezy .deb, but there is one for hoary).
Once extracted via tar -xvzf, a directory is created. Enter that directory
and you'll notice 3 files; make_module, make_deb, and make_rpm. I simply
did a sudo ./make_module and the modules compiled fine (just make sure to
have the kernel headers and fakeroot installed). The next command that the
script tells you to run is the ./ltinst(2) which installs the ltmodem
modules. Once I did this, not only was I dialing into the internet, but it
actually negotiated and logged me in. Finally the road to the lt_modem
modules is successful. Of course, you'll have to compile this for each
kernel you are running, but it worked fine with 2.6.12-9-K7.
