Filing bug reports: What's the point?

Well, if there's any activity at all, he'd get an email, so it de facto
means that nothing's happened (though not that nobody's looked).

Yep.  Sometimes even the negative ones (bugs closed for whatever reason that
doesn't involve a fix) get dealt with quickly.
