I have checked out the Areca web-site.

I have been able to install SuSE 10.0 using the Areca provide driver
(after much trial and error as the instructions are very, very bad)

Areca does not provide a driver for Debian (or Ubuntu);
rather they point you at a site which has Debian Woody/Sarge installer
images with Areca support built in. I tried using the Sarge installer
but it segfaults during boot.

I am currently download, and will try, the Debian etch (testing) installer
beta.

However, none of the above does me any good trying to install Ubuntu.

The Areca kernel module, arcmsr, is supposed to be included in the kernel
since about 2.6.11. I tried, in the Ubuntu installer, switching the the
C-A-F2
console and manually loading the module (ie modprobe acrmsr) but it
reports module not found.

Any other ideas?
