Not really. It is a scanning engine like any other scanning engine. It
just has to have interfaces and ways of using it (such as the
ClamSentry on mac os x).

Take a look at, http://www.clamav.net/3rdparty.html.

It has a list of such bits of software. The best solution is one as
mentioned as earlier (fetchmail + clamAv + thunderbird). You could
probably just use ClamAV as a periodic scanner to scan the mailbox
files though.
