The October issue of Tux Magazine, http://www.tuxmagazine.com, which
is available free in PDF format, has a really good article on getting
iRiver Digital Audio Players working with linux.
One of the methods described, and the one they recommend, involves
updating the firmware on your device so that it is recognized as a USB
Mass Storage Class device. With this method, no additional software
is required.
You can download the issues of Tux for free, but they do require you
to register with your email address. It's a very well produced and
well written e-Magazine though, and worth it. I generally read every
article.
