Im not really understanding what the problem is.
You burned off a cd.
The cd set up and then it changed to the online install.
Im guessing it asked you a couple of questions: language, time zone,
that type of thing.
After all of that, and a reboot I believe, you come to the log in.
During the question phase you were asked your Name, login name, and
password.
The login screen is asking that login name.
If you get that then the password screen.
If for some reason you are taken to the cmdln then perhaps you are
clicking something on the screen besides the login.
