Well, if you go into the preferences, there is a "show comments stored in 
file" option, which is only disabled by default because it's slower.  I just 
tried it -- it *does* work.  It may not support writing that comment tag, but 
it does support writing EXIF tags, which would at least give you backwards 
compatibility.
