Screen resolution

Hi,
There must be a reason why the system menu has it like that. Just a 
quick reference on screen resolution?
Any way walk through the steps of the following command:

Do Ctrl Alt F1 then to get the console. Then issue:

sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86
