install ubuntu to a remote server?

If the server in question is running some variant of linux, you have
root access to it, and it has some basic utilities installed, I can't
see any reason why you shouldn't be able to follow the same procedure
as described in:
http://www.underhanded.org/papers/debian-conversion/remotedeb.html
..using the ubuntu version of debootstrap, and making any other
adjustments to the procedure as necessary.
Disclaimer: I have no experience with this process. It's obviously
possible, but that's all I know.
