Third issue.  Maybe related to the second one with the Debian menu.

I upgraded from Warty to Hoary, and Synaptic is now offering to upgrade
my X-Window System from 4.3.0.dfsg.1-6ubuntu25.2 to 6.8.2-10 which seems
like quite an upgrade.  Especially since the download will only be 166Kb.

Is this normal?  If not, why am I even seeing this?

That's three e-mails about (probably) separate issues.
