Did that! Didn't work! Then I looked back at the starting post and
realised that the problem and solution where listed. Removed the
JAVA_HOME and PATH settings from /etc/environment and could then boot
into the system??? Then put back the JAVA_HOME setting and could boot.
Have left the PATH setting commented out but will try to put that back
to so that I can be sure it is causing the problem...



Have just put back the PATH setting in /etc/environment and the system
bombs again - now I am 100% sure that the PATH setting is causing the
grief. Have no idea why this is but will have to live without setting
the PATH environment variable in /etc/environment until I have a
solution/answer.
