Could you please do a 
# strace mysql-query-browser &> mqb.strace.log

and file it in a bug of malone? (for the original hoary version and 
additionally for your self-compiled version please)
I was working on this piece of software and a couple of days ago the new 
release of mysql-query-browser was synced from debian.
it was starting correctly on x86 and running without any problems. so it's 
good to know about it on amd64 and someone who can test it afterwards.

please create a bug report on https://launchpad.ubuntu.com/malone and directly 
assign it sh-sourcecode (or search for shermann in the assignee list).
