[Hoary] "Clearlooks" problems...

I am having a few issues with the Clearlooks themes that's now default
in Ubuntu, maybe someone can help, or confirm them, so I can file a bug
report...

1) I edited the gtkrc file (in /usr/share/themes/Clearlooks/gtk-2.0) to
modify some of the engine's settings, thanks to the options provided
below :

--------------------------
  engine "clearlooks"  {
    sunkenmenubar     = 0       # 0 = disable, 1 = enable
    menuitemstyle     = 0     # 0 = flat, 1 = 3d-ish (button)
    listviewitemstyle = 0      # 0 = flat, 1 = 3d-ish (gradient)
    progressbarstyle  = 1       # 0 = candy bar, 1 = flat
  }
}
-------------------------

The first 3 options work fine, but the last one, the "candy" bar,
doesn't seem to work, won't disappear ie. It won't give me the
flat/normal looking progress bar. :o(

2) I wanted to compile my own Clearlooks theme (same version, 0.5) to
see if it would work any better, and also to remove the round edges, but
Synaptic threatens me to remove "ubuntu-artwork" (which I could live
without) but also... GDM !!!!! Nothing less ! I don't exactly want to
remove GDM of course, and don't quite see why GDM would rely on gtk
theme to work properly. Well, I saw the other day that in "standard"
greeter mode, it uses root's Ubuntu/clearlooks theme, but if it is
uninstalled couldn't it be clever enough to simply revert to some other
default theme like Simple or Glider ?

3) Since I am the only user on the machine, I thought a "will do for
now" solution, would be to compile it install it only for the user
instead of root/system wide. It installs fine, but gnome won't pick it
up, it sticks to the main/root engine. However in Breezy, the user
engine prevails and Gnome does give it priority over the default/root
one.

4) Problem with drop-down lists and vertical scroll-bars.
For example if you go to "Applications" then "Run Application...".
Now click on the arrow to unfold the drop down list, you get this :

That is, a nice/clean/tidy list of a few choices.

Now click again to close the list, and click again to re-open it, you
get this :

Now, you get his ridiculous and out of place scroll bar, which clutters
the list and servers no purpose whatsoever. And you can even scroll it a
tiny little bit, about 3 or 5 pixels or so, great...

Another exmaple with the netword status applet :

Clean list first time : http://www.007.org.uk/~vtrouilliez/temp/3.png
Ugly list afterwards : http://www.007.org.uk/~vtrouilliez/temp/4.png

5) Now a little bug that may have to more to do with the Clearlooks
metacity than the engine. Go to "Applications" then "System Tools" and
open "Ubuntu Device Database". The window border has the usual 3 buttons
that you would expect : minimize, maximize, close

http://www.007.org.uk/~vtrouilliez/temp/5.png

But grab you mouse, and hover the pointed over said buttons a bit... all
of a sudden, one of the 3 buttons disappears, and you are left with :

Then there is that bug with Evolutions "New" button, that always in
"pre-raise" state, but I have already filed a bug for this one...

...crossing fingers for Breezy.
