GDM : can't set a background image ... bug ?

i tried to set a background picture, too and i KNOW that everything is
set in a correct manner in my config files (yesm it is set to use the
picture, not the bg-color as default action), but the picture does not
show up (instead i see the grey color value i gave as "default"). i
will try with the picture residing in /usr/share/wallpapers later but i
second your impression of a minor bug.
