x won't start

i finally got into a command prompt but i can't get x to start, i've read 
stuff all over the net but i can't seem to find something to fix the 
problem. i have onboard video and an nvidia card, i'm trying to use the 
nvidia card but when i try to install the drivers it tells me to put in my 
ubuntu disc, i put in the disc and press enter but the same prompt just pops 
up, i have no idea what to do...
