ah, so it's not an Ubuntu specific problem... I shall chill out now and cease
pestering the Ubuntu security team to get it fixed... I just wish they'd
remove the offending packages from the security repositories though and
prevent other users from having to mess with synaptic to force the old
package to be kept...
