Y'know, I looked at this the same way and had the same problem with it.
I was _sure_ that it work allow me to set different configurations for
different locations.  Never did get it to work that way.

So when I had Warty on my laptop, I installed NetworkManager.

Worked great.  However, I am currently (re)installing Hoary and I've
been looking at Wifi Radar.

It looks pretty good and I saw a quick howto on the Ubuntu Forums a few
weeks ago.  I'm going to try that and see how it works.
