Thanks for enlightening me Mikal. Looks like there is no easy way of
removing the protections then :-/  Thanks god, Xpdf appears to ignore
the protections, however gPdf, despite being based on Xpdf (I
thought ?), did NOT let me print the file. Shame.
I hope that development on eVince is going well, and will provide us
with a full featured PS/PDF viewer, with some nice options like removing
protections for example... :-)
