| I'm resending this because I didn't get any responses. I'm desperately
| hoping someone can help me. I don't want to have to erase the entire
| hard drive. If anyone has any ideas on how I can down by one (ie: hdb8
| becomes hdb9), I would appreciate it. I /hope/ that would solve my
problem.
|
| I just reinstalled Ubuntu Hoary (I used a Warty CD and then ran a
| dist-upgrade). I then surfed the web a bit (just taking a break). And
| then I proceeded to mount the partitions from my old Hoary installation
| to migrate the data. The only partition I really needed was the
| /dev/hdb6 partition that contained my home folder. I proceeded to copy
| over all he files I needed into my new home folder. Then, I booted off
| of the Warty install disk and deleted /dev/hdb6. Now, the computer won't
| boot. I get this error in grub whenever I try to boot:
|
| *GRUB Loading stage1.5.
|
|
| GRUB loading, please wait...
| Error 15

|
| *Here is the current state of my partitions (in order):*
|
| /dev/hda1 primary 10.7GB ntfs
| FREE SPACE 6.3GB
| /dev/hda3 primary 22.9GB ntfs
| FREE SPACE 2.8MB
|
| /dev/hdb9 logical 9.9GB ext3 /
| /dev/hdb10 logical 1.9GB ext3 /boot
| /dev/hdb11 logical 4.9GB ext3 /tmp
| /dev/hdb12 logical 9.9GB ext3 /usr
| /dev/hdb13 logical 3.9GB ext3 /var
| /dev/hdb14 logical 11.9GB ext3 /home
| /dev/hdb16 logical 6.6GB swap
| /dev/hdb15 logical 14.9GB ext3 /home/matt/Media_Files
| FREE SPACE 23.2GB
| /dev/hdb8 logical 6.0GB ext3 (FROM OLD SETUP)
| /dev/hdb7 logical 3.9GB ext3 (FROM OLD SETUP)
| /dev/hdb6 logical 1.0GB ext3 (FROM OLD SETUP)
| /dev/hdb5 logical 17.9GB ext3 (FROM WARTY)
| FREE SPACE 3.2GB
|
|
| *Here is what used to be the state of my partitions (I think):*
|
| /dev/hda1 primary 10.7GB ntfs
| FREE SPACE 6.3GB
| /dev/hda3 primary 22.9GB ntfs
| FREE SPACE 2.8MB
|
| /dev/hdb10 logical 9.9GB ext3 /
| /dev/hdb11 logical 1.9GB ext3 /boot
| /dev/hdb12 logical 4.9GB ext3 /tmp
| /dev/hdb13 logical 9.9GB ext3 /usr
| /dev/hdb14 logical 3.9GB ext3 /var
| /dev/hdb15 logical 11.9GB ext3 /home
| /dev/hdb17 logical 6.6GB swap
| /dev/hdb16 logical 14.9GB ext3 /home/matt/Media_Files
| */dev/hdb6 logical 6GB ext3 (OLD) /home*
| FREE SPACE 17.2GB
| /dev/hdb9 logical 6.0GB ext3 (FROM OLD SETUP)
| /dev/hdb8 logical 3.9GB ext3 (FROM OLD SETUP)
| /dev/hdb7 logical 1.0GB ext3 (FROM OLD SETUP)
| /dev/hdb5 logical 17.9GB ext3 (FROM WARTY)
| FREE SPACE 3.2GB
|
|
| *Note that the only addition was the OLD /home partition. I have assumed
| that everything was just moved down by one when I deleted the hdb6 (OLD
| /home) partition.
| Note that this is the only change I have made. I didn't mean to change
| anything. I wanted to just delete that partition to free up some space
| because I didn't need it any more.
|
| Thanks for your help guys,
| ~Matt*
|

This may or may not help much, but have you tried booting from a live-cd
and remaking the hdb6 partition?
