apt-get vs. Ubuntu Update Manager

Well I am new at this whole Linux thing. So I know how to do a few
things. The whole Apt process is something that I am just fumbling
through right now. I assumed a apt-get dist-upgrade would already do
that. It seems that would be a logical thing. Then again this is me.
