Nautilus and Places menu

Hi,
I've done a cursory search, but can't find anything about this, which
suprises me greatly.
When one opens a file from the Places menu, the window is very
different from the default Nautilus view. For example the menubar is
quite different:
Nautilus: File Edit View Go Bookmarks Help
Places Browser: File Edit View places Help
and the File and View menus are different, with different options.
Yet this is the same application.
Is this deliberate? (If so, why?) Is it possible to configure the
Places Browser to use the default Nautilus window?
Running Hoary preview 7, fully up to date.
TIA
john
