Memory card reader (USB port) : ins and outs ?

Hmmm, had a look at hotplug's man page. Seems indeed reponsible for
detecting the USB card reader (and anything) when it is hot plugged, not
only during boot. I tried to restart the service by hand, but it hangs
(well, after 2 minutes waiting at the command line, I eventually gave
ie...)

What could be wrong ? In the man page, there is a web site URL, but it's
defunct apparently :o(
