linux is a journey, ubuntu makes you share it :-)

seriously, besides several distros still struggling
with fstab etc, usb has some problems too.
you are not connecting through an unpowered usb hub, right ?
can you reboot while the card is plugged in and see
what happens ? does the reader have a light as indicator ?
