no, an "apt-get remove" removes all files that were installed but not
the config-files (usually in /etc)

an "apt-get remove --purge" removes all installed files *and*
configfiles, and i believe in both cases it does not even remove empty
directories which were created during install

i think that does not matter as long as you don't start thunderbird
after that, but first make sure you have a proper backup of your
mailboxen anyway
