Samba troubleshooting

Hello
I've set up some ubuntu boxes in the past and samba worked for me
without a problem. Now things got a little bit complicated and I would
very much appreciate some help.
The box I'm setting up now is supposed to be a router/samba file
server. After some fiddling around I've configured the network. eth0
is the external interface with a static IP (195.x.x.x), eth1 is the
internal one (static ip 192.168.0.1). I've also set up a DHCP server
on eth1 with firestarter, the server works fine and the connected
boxes have internet access.
I've put this
#v+
interfaces = 127.0.0.1, 192.168.0.1/24
bind interfaces only = yes
#v-
into smb.conf so smbd should be working on the internal network. I
have some doubts if the interfaces line is good for my network but
maybe you could clarify it for me (I don't quite get the *0.1/24 bit,
maybe it should be *0.0/24)
The gnome/kde remote server browsers don't work, smbstatus doesn't
show anything. If you have any ideas, I'm ready to provide any
information I can find.
The client boxes run Windows XP, and it would be a shame if I hade to
use Windows as the OS for my router. Please help me. I don't have any
more ideas what to do with this problem.
