Success...almost (RealPlayer)

I've managed to get sound with RealPlayer 10 by disabling sound server
startup and altering the esd.conf file.  I've also installed alsa-oss
just because.  But the quality of sound is extremely poor.  I can only
describe them as clicks; at first I thought it was the stream, but it
applies to mp3s as well.  I'd like to fix this problem and not use
something like mplayerplug-in, as that doesn't allow me to navigate
hour long streaming audio.
