[Hoary] Update-manager notification : how does it work ?

In the middle tab of system/preferences/session "Current Session" there
is a list of running programs. I have update-notifier in this list. 
But I never get an icon.

Update manager works fine, synpatic works fine, both spot updates and
new stuff, but I'm never getting that icon!

I guess I'll just have to hope some update at some point fixes it!
