fontconfig problems in hoary

Removing the upgrade code at the bottom of the 
/var/lib/dpkg/info/fontconfig.config should get you past the problem
(the section marked "convert old debconf -> new debconf").

The problem is some upgrade code which expects there to be a variable 
fontconfig/subpixel_rendering in the debconf database.

$ DEBCONF_DEBUG=developer sudo ./fontconfig.config
debconf (developer): frontend started
debconf (developer): Trying to find a templates file..
debconf (developer): Trying ./fontconfig.config.templates
debconf (developer): Trying ./fontconfig.templates
debconf (developer): I guess it is ./fontconfig.templates
debconf (developer): frontend running, package name is
debconf (developer): starting ./fontconfig.config
debconf (developer): <-- GET fontconfig/subpixel_rendering
debconf (developer): --> 10 fontconfig/subpixel_rendering doesn't exist
