cron.daily/apt job

Hey,

It looks like cron.daily/apt can be used to download all upgradable
packages automatically as well as run apt-get autoclean.  It doesn't
appear to me that in the default configuration these things actually
happen though.  Anyone know how to enable this?

Also, ultimately I would like to recieve a daily e-mail of upgradable
packages.  I'm not sure if this will happen automatically if I enable
the downloading.
