[Hoary] Synaptic & Installed (local or obsolete)

Hello all, what are the packages in Synaptic's "local or obsolete" category?

I recognise old kernels which I understand are kept around just in
case you decide to boot to an earlier version of a kernel & also MOL
stuff which I've compiled from scratch.

There are also three python 2.3 files (samba, dbus, syck) and a whole
slew of libraries in the list.

PS I discovered a neat feature in Synaptic -- you can see dependency
information merely by enabling it in the app's preferences.
