Getting hopeless on Hoary sound problems

The suggestion just made a few minutes ago to make auto_spawn=1 in 
/etc/esound/esd.conf work wonders and fixed a whole series of
problems. Give it a try.

Yes, Rhythmbox ain't pretty, but I like how it works with gnome. I've
been trying it for a few weeks to see if I can get used to it. It's
easier to set up for my wife and kids when they want to play their
iTunes playlists on Linux. I use slimserver to stream from  Windows to
Linux. I can shave a step or two off the process of getting connected
to this stream (compared with XMMS) by just adding the stream URL as a
radio station.
