I believe the phrase "it's like butter" originated with a Saturday Night
Live skit from around 10-15 years ago starring Mike Myers as a Long
Island (New York) Jewish woman that hosted a call in show called "Coffee
Talk." 

And, yes, it means that "it" is great.
