to esd auto_spawn or not?

Seen in the man page of esd on Hoary:
      auto_spawn
0 or 1 indicating whether the esd library should automatically
spawn a daemon if one is not running when a sound is played. This
option is not recommended for Gnome users who have enabled sound
           for events in Gnome.

I have noticed in Hoary that if auto_spawn=0 in /etc/esound/esd.conf
(which seems to be the default), RealPLayer will refuse to work as
long as the esd daemon is running. If I kill esd, then RealPlayer
works normally.

But if I set auto_spawn=1 (then logout and login again), then Real
Player works at the same time than esd, and I can't say I have seen
any ill effect, and all the sounds seem to work fine.

Anyone has an idea of the potential danger hinted by the esd man pages?
