Totem Playing DVD, sluggish!

Hi,
I got it to work but it was jumpy as if it was sticking every couple of
seconds.
I give up and ripped out all the Gstream stuff and installed gxine and
it works great for all media, movies, audio, real and internet radio.
and has a playlist that is savable which is a feature missing in some
apps such a VLC.
I have heard great reports about M Player but have never managed to get
it to install, I followed the guide in this forum but hit problems of
dependencies half way through.
