Evolution, signature

Trying Evolution as an mua for a while, and having a bit of bother with
the sig part. I can get it to use my little bash script, which pulls a
fresh quote from a fortune file, flings it in with a few other bits, and
voila!

Except that Evolution strips the newline/line terminations from the sig.
I can't find out how to turn that "feature" off. Any suggestions as to
where to look ?
