nautilus rename file

This has happened to me before and I think the problem was that the
contents of the directory were changing at the time, particularly
video. When video is being downloaded (legally, of course :) ),
nautilus-thumbnailer constantly updates the thumbnail, and that takes
the focus away from the renaming for some reason and sets the filename
to whatever you have typed so far. Sounds like a bug to me. My
solution was to move the file to a different directory, rename it,
then move it back.
