hoary very slow

Hi,

I just got Hoary installed on my laptop (IBM T42).  And for some reason, 
when I use sudo it's super slow even for opening a file with vi.  I 
wonder if it has any relation to the network since this seem to have 
started to happen after I activated my wireless network connection.  
After being unsuccessful with wireless, I just decided to use wired 
connection, but for some reason it's super slow whenever I open an 
application requiring sudo.

Also, Synaptic just crashes as soon as I press update.

Any suggestions?
