how to tranfer a linux installation from 1 hdd to another

i just installed linux on a neww hdd but i had to remove my old hdd to do 
it.
problem is there is already a fedora core install on that hdd.
can i just copy the contents of / to this hdd and run fedora from it or do i 
need to run installer again.
