Yah, "sudo bash" vs "su -" is just such a hassle to get a root shell! If
you're going to argue the merits one way or the other, at least have some
grasp of the subject matter that doesn't involve these lame "too much typing"
arguments.
For the OP - there's been plenty of discussion in this forum about the reasons
for not "having" a root account in Ubuntu and why this is a good thing(tm).
Google and http://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-users/ are your friends :)
