Someone with the knowledge will answer your question soon.  In the
meantime here's an idea possibly related to your problem.  Please
forgive me if it's useless advice!

I had a problem when my printer (HP though, not Epson) refused to print
with Gimp but worked with everything else.  In the Gimp printing
settings I had to change the print command line to something I don't
quite remember.  Maybe http://www.linuxprinting.org or the mailing list
archives have what your looking for.
