Hoary's alsa-source package (in universe) includes support for the
Azalia chipset. I've helped many people configure it successfully.
Simply search the forum for "azx".

The much-preferred method is to use the alsa-source package, as I stated
above, because it uses Ubuntu's infrastructure to install and configure
the driver cleanly.
Breezy already supports the Azalia chipset with the snd_hda_intel driver
(note the name change).
