The first thing to check is whether you have the gimp-print printer
driver package installed, then set your printer to use the driver from
that package.

I *think* the master package is cupsys-driver-gimpprint and should load
the various databases of printer types and drivers.  It is a while since
I set this up...

Certainly you want to see gimp-print mentioned in the printer driver
dropdown on the Driver tab of the printer properties for your printer.  

The gimp-print drivers are not just for gimp, they work well for
everything.
