Curt,

It seems you're suffering from a similar bug that I encountered.
Someone on the list (Evan) pointed me to the fact that this has been
reported as a bug here:
https://bugzilla.ubuntu.com/show_bug.cgi?id=10643, with a possible
solution listed there as well:

"please try quitting firefox, removing ~/.mozilla/firefox/*/XUL.mfasl; and
restarting firefox again."

It has been recognized as a bug: "it is a bug; it'll be fixed in the
next round of security releases. Thanks for notifying us of this."

Perhaps this solves your problem too.
