Formating a slave drive

In an attempt to point toward the patch of learning, possibly reading
the man/info pages for fdisk and mkfs would be a good starting point.

That depends on what is on the drive now. Showing us the output of

sudo fdisk -l 

and being a bit more precise in what you mean with slave drive might
help.
