This seems to have drifted into a philosophy of what linux is or is not.
To answer one poster I used kde back in the days of Caldera - remember
them?. It certainly has changed, and its functionality has increased
dramatically, although I personally use Gnome. 10 years ago I was one of
about two linux users in Nova Scotia. There are now many medical offices
and clinics running linux. I think linux is a little above *barely being
noticed*.

Prognosticating about the future face of computing is rather like
forecasting the stock market, occasionally correct but often wrong.
Perhaps the theory of stock market bubbles could apply to Microsoft et
al.

I should not have retired. It brings out the soap-boxer in me,
